Scoring Pattern (Marking criteria in detail)

  • Task 1 responses are assessed on:
    • Task Achievement (TA):
    • Answer every part of the question.

    • Coherence and Cohesion (CC):
    • Connect the ideas and sentences with suitable linking structures. Keep the ideas simple and concise. The ideas expressed by the candidate must be easily comprehended by the examiner.

    • Lexical Resource (LR):
    • A Lexical resource is the vocabulary used in the writing. Vocabulary doesn’t mean using fancy/ complicated words. It means displaying a variety of synonyms i.e. not repeating the words on-and-on.

    • Grammatical Range and Accuracy (GRA):
    • Use the right grammatical structure.

  • Task 2 responses are assessed on:
    • Task Response (TR):
    • Answer every part of the essay needs to be addressed.

    • Coherence and Cohesion (CC):
    • Connect the ideas and sentences with suitable linking structures. Keep the ideas simple and concise. The ideas expressed by the candidate must be easily comprehended by the examiner.

    • Lexical Resource (LR):
    • A Lexical resource is the vocabulary used in the writing. Vocabulary doesn’t mean using fancy/ complicated words. It means displaying a variety of synonyms i.e. not repeating the words on-and-on.

    • Grammatical Range and Accuracy (GRA):
    • Use the right grammatical structure.

Each criteria takes up 25% and the total is converted in-terms of Band Score. Task 2 carries greater weightage than Task 1. Both the Tasks are evaluated individually and assigned a Band Score. The average of these makes the final Writing Score.
